Actress Rachel Nichols is helping to bring a little holiday cheer to sick kids in New York City by hosting a special screening of Arthur Christmas on Thursday (01Dec11).
The Star Trek beauty will stop by The Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan with a screener copy of the new release so kids who are too ill to catch the production in theatres can see it.
Speaking about the project on Wednesday (30Nov11), she tells us, “I have a pre-New Years resolution, which is actually to spend more time working with events, like charities and foundations. I work very closely with the Lollipop Theater Network. We bring movies that are still in theatres to kids in hospitals, and I’m doing a hospital visit tomorrow at Mount Sinai.

“Lollipop always sets up an event for me to do with the kids, and we take pictures and I sign autographs and I sign T-shirts.
I want to do more of that in the New Year because I don’t think there’s enough of it.
And I spend my fair share of watching TV specials and having my heart broken (by the sad stories).
I’ve been saying for a long time I want to give back, and next year I really am… I love working with kids”.

Rachel Nichols has worked out her own little niche: having chick fights, which she lovingly terms as “dope.” The stunning blonde actress stands 5’10” but is as gentle and open as can be. No wonder they found her to be a great match for the 6’4” Jason Momoa as they co-star in Lionsgate’s Conan the Barbarian revamp. When I sat down with Nichols yesterday afternoon, we explored what it feels like to be a first-timer at Comic-Con, girl fights, the challenges of shooting in Bulgaria, and even the other Rachel Nichols at ESPN. For my full interview transcript and audio, hit the jump.
Before we get the interview going, I want to note that I did make a large gaffe when I mistakenly referred to Nichols’ character in GI Joe as Baroness, instead of Scarlett. Why that occurred may never be known, but Nichols was kind enough to skate past my momentary confusion and I really think we started to hit a nice stride towards the end of the interview. One thing to note is that this Conan film is full of bloodshed and gore. However, it does have an interesting look and feel compared to the original. If you’re interested, look for Conan the Barbarian to be released August 19th. As promised, below you can find the full interview transcript and the audio as well.
Collider: Let’s go ahead and jump into it. How many Cons does this make for you?
Rachel Nichols: How many what does it make?
Cons. Comic-Cons?
Nichols: Oh! See, that’s how you know I’ve never been here before.
Ahhh. See.
Nichols: Because I was like, “Con, what is he talking about Con?” This is my first adventure at Comic-Con. When Star Trek and GI Joe were here, I was working on other stuff and this is my debut at Comic-Con.
Interesting. So are you a fan? Did you ever think about coming here or were you disappointed when you couldn’t come with the other films? Especially with Baroness, she’s such a huge character.
Nichols: I was Scarlett.

The actress recently sat down with the New York Post to discuss her new full time role on the CBS series Criminal Minds plus a little bit about G.I. Joe 2 and the Conan the Barbarian remake.
Nichols2.jpg
When Nichols first appeared on Criminal Minds it was to be as a guest starring role but it quickly turned into a full time gig; “they’re stuck with me now,” the actress joked. Her last TV role was on the series Alias which starred Jennifer Garner.
“…that’s a huge family. I mean, they were the nicest people. You truly think that can’t happen twice – especially with the schedule of a one-hour drama, but after one episode I wanted to spend years with these people. Luckily they came back and asked me to join the BAU – it was the best Christmas gift ever. I was thrilled.”
In Criminal Minds Nichols plays newbie Ashley Seaver, who’s father is a serial killer who was caught by characters Hotchner and Rossi when she was 18. In regards to playing the role she says she loves “playing women who have something extraordinary in their life.”
While she admits to not being a fan of her G.I. Joe action figure but she did love the role and is hoping for a rematch with co-star Sienna Miller. “I need to win! I was complaining that the good girl gets her butt kicked, but the [producers] kept telling me – “in the sequel, you win!” I think it could just be “G.I. Joe 2: Scarlett vs. Baroness.” That’s all it’ll be, just the two of us fighting.” She also mentions that everyone remains “tight-lipped” about the upcoming sequel and has yet to see a script for G.I. Joe 2.
Nichols will be in the upcoming Conan the Barbarian reboot. She will go fist to cuffs with co-star Rose McGowan who plays her nemesis, Marique, stating she’s “the bad girl to my good girl. We have a fight scene and she is after my blood. Let me tell you, her make-up is unreal. I mean, Rose is barely recognizable under all these prosthetics. It’s quite cool.”
She continues to say that even though her fight with McGowan is a good one she still feels it doesn’t compare with her catfight in G.I. Joe:
“I should probably say the savvy thing — that “Conan” is better … but it’s not. I’m so sorry! Sienna and I had the dopest chick fight ever. Mine with Rose is much shorter. I mean, Baroness & Scarlet fought on elevators! I think that is going to be my favorite scene ever … until we make them give us a better one in “G.I. Joe 2!”

Thanks to Colleen for sending on this new Rachel interview she did for Men’s Health.
IF YOU HAVE A FETISH FOR HOLLYWOOD STARLETS,
then actress Rachel Nichols is your girl. (Not to be confused with the ESPN reporter of the same name.) Yes, she has the obvious features that the average man finds highly desirable—judge for yourself with this slideshow—but we recently discovered a few that aren’t so superficial. In fact, we’ve decided she may be the world’s most interesting woman. Here’s why:
She Flies Coach
“I just can’t bring myself to pay for first-class,” says Nichols, who you can now see on CBS’s Criminal Minds and in the new movie Conan, coming in 2011. She does, however, complain on Twitter if she’s sitting next to a moron on the plane. One recent tweet from an LA to New York flight: “The man next to me is biting his fingernails and the skin around them. I throw up in my mouth every time he spit-flicks bits of debris. Bah.” Which provides two lessons: 1) The hot chick sitting next to you in 12A could be a movie star; 2) chewing on your fingernails is sure way to have no chance with a hot chick.
She Pays for Dinner
True story: When she was out to dinner with her trainer, Valerie Waters, and two Men’s Health editors, Nichols paid for the bill before either of the MH sad sacks knew what happened. Just to be clear: When magazine editors take you to dinner, it’s a foregone conclusion that they’re paying for dinner. In fact, it’s something you should totally take advantage of. (Surf and turf!) But Nichols slipped the waiter a credit card on her way to the ladies’ room. Class move, even if she is loaded. (Although our two editors argue that it’s very inconsistent with her policy of flying coach.)
She Kicks Ass in the Gym
Seven years ago, when Nichols was working as a model, she noticed that a cottage-cheese-like complexion began to appear on her backside. “I was a 23-year old model, but I didn’t work out or eat right,” she says. “I looked good in clothes, though.” Soon after, Nichols landed a recurring role on the hit show Alias. That’s when she hired Waters, who was already working with Jennifer Garner. (Yes, that Jennifer Garner.) “When we first met, Valerie said, ‘You’re a little soft,’” recalls Nichols. “And she was right: I was skinny-fat.” But a few weeks later? “I started noticing that the cellulite was going away. And after several months, it had disappeared completely,” says Nichols. “No massaging, no strange equipment, no nonsense. Just hard work, 3 or 4 times a week, along with a good diet.” Right on: That’s our advice for men, too.
She’s Never Boring
Some women have the same look for years. But click through this slideshow, and you’ll notice how dating Nichols might be like rotating between three different babes. (Without all the hassle.) She’s gone from blonde to brunette to redhead (we like them all!), and she can look cute and fun, or classy and elegant. Or just ooze pure sex appeal. And all the time, she’s sweet, sarcastic, and self-deprecating. (You’ll just have to trust us on that one.)
She’ll Talk to You on Twitter!
Seriously. Check out Rachel Nichols’ Twitter page and see for yourself. Of course, she can’t respond to everyone, but maybe you’ll get lucky. And isn’t that all a guy can hope for? We say case closed: This is one cool (and interesting!) chick.

Rachel Nichols (Star Trek) has been tapped for an arc on Criminal Minds later this season. Criminal Minds had been planning to add a new female regular cast member in the wake of the A.J. Cook’s departure. I hear the character Alias alumna Nichols will play, FBI cadet Ashley Seager, was originally envisioned as a new regular but that has changed, and Nichols will now appear in 3 episodes. Seager is invited by Agent Hotch (Thomas Gibson) to consult on a case after learning her family history will bring a unique insight into the mind of a serial killer
